Manitoba will be hosting the National Championship for both Under 16 and Under 19 Men’s Field Lacrosse. This huge event will take place Friday September 4 through Sunday September 6, 2009 at Buhler Recreation Park 135 Murdock Road (off Dugald, East Transcona). We have been planning these Championships since October, 2008 and we are looking for your help make this another excellent sporting event being hosted in Manitoba. We have seven (7) teams confirmed for both age categories. The host committee is looking for volunteers in a few significant areas. Those areas are: Minor Officials – timekeepers and scorekeepers Minor officials will be required to attend a training session prior to the Nationals. This will allow our volunteers an opportunity to be trained on what is required as a minor official for the field game and will give people the opportunity to meet your ‘colleagues’ before the Nationals begin. Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years of age or turning 16 in 2009. The game fee for minor officials will be $10/game. We will need a minimum of three (3) people per game, per field. Ball boys/girls and ‘runners’ - Participants must be a minimum of 12 years of age or turning 12 in 2009. Participants are required to wear a helmet, cage and gloves. If interested, you may want to take part in a U14 Field Lacrosse Festival at noon on Friday September 4th at Buhler Park As mentioned these National Championships will run over a three (3) day period, with all four fields going simultaneously. Statisticians - The statisticians work a particular assignment for each game counting shots, save, faceoff wins and losses then report this information to the tournament results centre. This position is suitable for all ages 16 and up. Site Readiness and Restoration - We need a team of people to assist in ensuring all is ready to go the evening before the event starts and to assist in the site teardown. This position is suitable for all ages 16 and older. Volunteers who work a minimum of 2 four hour shifts will receive a tournament logo'd Rbk (Reebok) Lacrosse shirt. Tentative start time for games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday is 8:30 a.m. Games will be played throughout the day finishing up around 5 p.m. or so (tentative).
